I remember debating our proposed move to Austin. "I cannot live in a flat dry place," I moaned. "I need hills, lots of greenery, and ideally our house should be perched at the edge of a cliff (more of the practical aspects of the cliff later!), with the soothing sounds of the river rushing below."
While I had to forego my cliff, and instead of a river, had to settle for a lake; to my happy surprise, I discovered that Texas wasn't all flat - or dry!
Hill Country has a riot of flowers to greet you in spring.
For those of you wondering whether Texas is worth a visit, particularly if you were hesitating, anticipating being put off by a stereotypical desert landscape, I strongly encourage you to give it a chance. Not only will it pleasantly surprise you like it did me, but you'll also find incredible food, fun destinations, and a rich cultural heritage that adds to its charm.
Try a boat trip, or a Downtown Live Music & Pub Crawl. Learn about Austin as a part of a Small Group tour, or chill out sampling wine in Driftwood/Wimberley.
Austin has something for everyone, and the best time to visit is now!
