Retreat into history

If you get a chance, would you not choose to dine where Sir Winston Churchill once dined? To stay under the same roof that hosted King Charles himself, and wander down the corridors featured in David Lean's classic film 'A Passage to India'?

Add to this rich history, the famed Taj hospitality, and you'll understand why I keep coming back to my favorite retreat in Bengaluru - the Taj West End!

Where history meets luxury

This location offers not just luxury and comfort but also a tangible connection to history and culture. Imagine the stories those walls could tell! Whether you're a history buff, a film enthusiast, or someone who appreciates the finer things in life, staying at a place with such a prestigious heritage is an unparalleled experience.

Lost in 20 acres of lush vegetation, serenaded by soothing birdsong, you will be tempted to ignore the many charms that Bengaluru offers!

Thoughtful gestures, like tempting desserts in your room, make the experience unforgettable. On one visit, they left dozens of delicious cookies in my room. Not having a sweet tooth, I shared them with friends, only to find they had replaced them with another dozen. I shared those too, and voila! Another dozen promptly reappeared! I blush to imagine what they thought about my appetite!

Sweet surprises

My favorite way to pass the time is to sit on the balcony of my room, reading until late hours. I'd order room service; the staff were so obliging to dish up spicier versions for me but would draw the line at my request for smaller portions. In vain, I'd try to finish my dinner, my mother's voice admonishing me not to waste food, only to give up again. The portions were always more than generous.

Taj West End is the only place where I'd wake up early (ok - reasonably early by my standard). It is a crime to miss their wonderful breakfasts.

Dive into serenity

Relaxing by the Prince of Wales lawn, surrounded by greenery, I'd start my mornings with strong filter coffee, piping hot dosa, and different treats each day, including the wonderful fresh juices that Mohan and Venkatesh used to press on me. They made my stay so memorable.

Each time I return, I wonder if things would have changed and if my dreamy retreat from Bengaluru would be replaced by a cold, corporate atmosphere. So far, I have been lucky, and I hope this beautiful slice of history never changes.
